Many students at De Soto High School had unique experiences over spring break, and senior Lyndsey Fowks was no exception.

Fowks went on a cruise through the Royal Caribbean cruise line, leaving Sat. March 12 and returning March 19.

“I left from Tampa, Florida and went to Belize City, Belize; Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Cozumel, Mexico,” Fowks said.

Fowks traveled with her mother, Sheila Fowks, but says the trip was from both of her parents.

“My mom wanted to take a trip with me before I went off to college, and my sister and my dad were in Florida for a cheer competition,” Fowks said. “It was kind of a senior gift to me from my parents.”

Although she stopped many places, Fowks’ favorite stop was in Roatan, Honduras.

“We went to a small island called Maya Key. There was an animal refuge on the island and I had the opportunity to play with baby monkeys and hug a sea lion,” Fowks said.

Cute animals were not the only part of Honduras that Fowks enjoyed either.

“I also went paddle boarding on the island, which was a really great way to see the beautiful scenery of both the island and Roatan,” Fowks said.

However, the unique stops were not the only thing that made the trip special.

“One thing that made the trip especially memorable were the people I met both on the boat and in each country,” Fowks said.

“The guides and native people I got to meet were super awesome and gave me a lot of insight on the culture of their nations.”

Despite all the adventure and fun, Fowks had a lot of down time as well.

“We had two full days of just being on the boat, so I had a lot of time to read and relax,” Fowks said. “If I went again I would probably bring more books!”
