The De Soto High School 2017 cheer season has officially come to an end.

Not to worry, there is already a new team ready to take the mat for the 2018 school year.

On Wed March 28, the DHS cheer coaches Kelcie Cater and Jackie Harwig, hosted a clinic for incoming freshmen and current DHS students.

At the clinic, the participants learned a cheer, chant and dance, that they would later perform as their tryout for the new team.

“I felt the clinic went great this year. It’s always nice to have two day clinics to learn material, get to know the potential cheerleaders, and practice before tryouts,” Cater said.

This year, the team is composed of 24 cheerleaders and two coaches.

Of the 24 cheerleaders on the team, 12 are returning from the previous year, and 12 are brand new to the squad.

Seniors Riley Moore and Kira Horn were the two captains who led the team throughout the 2017-2018 season.

“After watching the clinic and tryouts, I think the team next year has a lot to look forward to. The team has a lot of new talent, which is always exciting, and it will provide a lot of new opportunities for success,” Moore said.

With the new talent, the team starts practice for the upcoming season on Mon, April 16.
