Senior McKenna Webber signs to play soccer at Evangel University with her parents, Jon and Cathy Webber, on Sept. 30.

Though this year’s De Soto High School girl’s soccer season won’t begin until spring, senior McKenna Webber is making plans to continue her soccer career in college.

McKenna signed to Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri.

“It’s a really small, private, Christian college with like 2,000 students,” Webber said.

After visiting and attending a soccer camp, Webber decided that Evangel was the right fit for her.

“I went to a camp there, and I really loved their soccer coach,” Webber said. “They also have my major, pre-physical therapy, and I wanted to go somewhere small.”

Webber has been working towards her soccer goals for a long time.

“I’ve been playing soccer since Kindergarten, so it’s been like 12 years,” Webber said. “I mostly play defense.”
McKenna’s brother, Blake, also plays for DHS. According to Blake, McKenna’s dedication is what makes her such a good soccer player.

“She’s always been motivated and has a great work ethic,” Blake said. “She always wants to improve, and we have helped each other practice and become better players our whole lives.”
Blake and the rest of the Webber family have enjoyed watching McKenna progress through her soccer career.

“We enjoy watching her succeed and become a better player. It’s been cool seeing her develop into a college player.”
McKenna is also very excited for her last high school season.

“For my senior season, I’m most excited to hopefully be a captain and try to make it farther in the playoffs than last year,” McKenna said.
