The De Soto High School boys’ varsity soccer team picked up two home wins on Monday and Tuesday to stretch its overall record to 6-3 on the year.

DHS won 2-1 against Kansas City Christian on Sept. 25. The following day, the Wildcat won 6-0 against Ottawa High School.

The game against Kansas City Christian was very close with goals scored by senior Ethan Rodrigues and junior Rohan Singh.

Although Kansas City Christian is not in their league, it is still important for the DHS’ record.

The Wildcats comfortably won against Ottawa High school.

Junior Daniel Apple scored a hat trick with three goals, sophomore James Henggeler scored two and senior Ethan Rodrigues scored one.

Head coach Jesse Smith, who is in his third year as head coach, is happy with how the team did in the games.

“These games were good for us as a team because we felt it was the best overall games we’ve played so far,” Smith said.

The next home game is tonight against Blue Valley Southwest at 6 pm. This is the first time this year that the team has had three home games in one week.

The following week, the team has a game away against Eudora on Oct. 2.

Smith is excited to see how the team will do this season.

“I’m hopeful that we can continue to improve and win our league. Beyond that, if we take care of business I would like to get a Regional championship and play for an opportunity to go to the Final Four,” Smith said.
