The De Soto High School varsity tennis team played at the Jaguar Invitational at Mill Valley High School on Sept. 16.

The  team played against Bishop Miege, Bonner Springs, Lansing, Mill Valley, Pittsburg, Spring Hill, St. James Academy and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Sophomore Issa Sullivan won all five of her matches, putting as the overall winner of No. 1 singles. The other students who attended the match were No. 2 singles player junior Bailey Ramsdell, the No. 1 doubles team of seniors Kelsey Heer and Josie Bedford and the No. 2 team of seniors Raegen Ramsdell and Carly Bodenhausen. Both doubles teams, as well as Ramsdell, won two out of four of their matches.

Overall, the  team placed fourth in the tournament.

It wasn’t our best tournament, but we still played really well,” junior Bailey Ramsdell said. “We were in a hard bracket.”

The team has been practicing hard all year but still needs to put in some work to finish the season strong.

“There’s not necessarily one specific thing that the team needs to work on to improve,” Ramsdell said. “But I think that everyone has something that they need to work on to strengthen their game.”

The team is content with their placement and is ready to work hard the rest of the season.
