The De Soto High School cross country teams ran at the Shawnee North Community Center in the 2016 Seaman Invitational on Oct. 1.

The boys’ varsity team finished fifth out of nine teams with 157 points, with all of the varsity boys running the 5K in under 20 minutes.

Five out of the seven varsity boys even had personal records at the meet.

“I am so proud of them and beyond thrilled of their accomplishments and hopefully they are just as proud as I am,” assistant coach Ben Stamey said.

Junior Andre Vanmeerhaeghe had a PR of 17:41, junior Kason Jackson had a PR of 17:30, sophomore Aydan Vanmeerhaeghe had a PR of 19:16, sophomore Graham Hudelson had a PR of 18:23, and freshman Chase Culver had a PR of 18:40.

“I felt great during the race and I feel great about my time. I feel I have never ran better in my entire life,” Hudelson said.

Girls’ varsity finished ninth out of nine teams with 227 points.

“I think our biggest strength in our team is that we to like to work hard, we just don’t push ourselves as much as we should,” said varsity runner junior Gabby Collins.

The teams will race again on Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Cat Classic at Shawnee Mission Park.
