The De Soto High School girls’ basketball team advanced to the State tournament for the first time since 1984 with a 68-33 win over Atchison High School March 5 at Tonganoxie High School.

Senior Taylor Saucerman led the Wildcats with 21 points, and junior Julia Johnson added 17.

DHS (14-8) enters the 4A Division I State Basketball Championships as the No. 7 seed and will face second-seeded and undefeated Wellington High School (22-0) at 3 p.m. March 9 at the Bicentennial Center in Salina.
