Junior Megan Bonar verbally committed to play basketball for the University of South Dakota on Nov. 24. This choice was made from an abundance of offers from various schools.

Bonar felt that South Dakota was the place where she belongs.

“It felt like home,” Bonar said.

Since she was very young, Bonar has been dedicated to playing basketball. Although she missed childhood activities and events because of commitments to her sport, Bonar is now seeing it all pay off.

Ever since her first offer in the seventh grade from Charleston Southern University, colleges have been vying for her commitment to their team. Colleges like Iowa State, Kansas State, South Dakota, Drake and others have been recruiting her.

“My dad has [tracked] around 40 somewhere,” Bonar said.

These many offers have made Bonar proud of all the years she worked and dedicated her time to perfecting her talent.

“I feel really good because I have worked really hard and I’ve missed so many things growing up. I couldn’t go to friends birthday parties because I had to go to this, and now all of it is paying off because I don’t have to pay for college. So, it makes me feel like everything I was doing and missing, is all turning out in the end,” Megan said.

Head coach Jim Bonar is also very proud of his daughter’s effort.

“I am very proud of her for working hard enough to get a scholarship so she doesn’t have to pay for education,” Jim said.

After college she wants to play professionally overseas. The competition is fierce, and she feels she will enjoy the challenge.

“I want to play overseas, because you get more money overseas. It’s really good competition,” Megan said.
