With three athletes competeing at State, the De Soto High School boys’ tennis team finished the season strong.

Two of the Zoller brothers competed at State. Freshman Luke Zoller played in singles finishing with a 2-2 record and his brother Ben played doubles with his partner junior Ramsey Mason. The duo finished their play at State with an 0-2 record.

Although no one placed, the boys played hard to finish the season strong.

“They played really strong. The State tournament is always kind of an adventure,” head coach Justin Hoffman said.

For the overall season, Hoffman has mixed feelings.

“I hate the weather. I hate Kansas in the spring. That’s pretty much what I think about tennis season. For the players, they had a good year with a lot of young players; trying to learn a new coach and a new system, they responded really well,” Hoffman said.

Hoffman is already looking forward to next year.

“I think we are set up really well for the next couple of years. [I’m excited to] build off of what we started this year. We had a really good year and to get more experience and play this summer and fall and they will do a lot better next year,” Hoffman said.

With only a couple of seniors leaving, the space to fill for next year is minimal, but the team still wants to recruit as many players as possible to build the team as best as they can.
