Boys’ basketball wins Tonganoxie tournament, girls take fifth

On Jan. 16-21, the varsity basketball teams at De Soto High School participated in the 59^th annual Tonganoxie Invitational at Tonganoxie High School.

The girls lost to Blue Valley Southwest in the first round, but beat Atchison and Chanute ending the tournament with a fifth place finish.

The boys went undefeated through the tournament and eventually beat Blue Valley Southwest in a tough championship game.

DHS had several players on the all-tournament team including freshman Megan Bonar, junior Paige Williams and seniors Joey Johnson, John Williams and Mason Wedel. Wedel was also named the tournament MVP.

The next home game for the Wildcats is Jan. 31 against Baldwin.
