Modern rap music is too vulgar

In today’s society, music is a vital component in the operation of daily life. The type of music that is being created is starting to become extremely vulgar, specifically the rap genre.

I should not have to turn on the radio and feel as if my ears are being assaulted by a gang of hoodlums. Rappers today spew rhymes that sound unintelligent and are not pertinent to any meaningful topic. Every time a rap song comes on the radio, I feel as if my IQ has dropped significantly within those couple of seconds it takes for me to change the station. I fear a day when I am forced to listen to this genre for several hours at a time.

Besides the fact that rap music sounds simply unintelligent, it is completely derogatory towards women. Rappers reference women as sex objects. Not only is that completely offensive to all women, but it is also extremely inappropriate. Women should not have to feel as if they are being addressed as sexual property.

In addition to degrading women, rappers also use long strings of curse words that leave the listener both confused and offended. I personally do not appreciate hearing three minutes in which one person simply states words with extreme negative connotations that make no sense together. Using curse words is completely unnecessary. Also, if one is not intelligent enough to construct a phrase that is logical, then that individual does not deserve to have fame.

After bantering pointless statements, degrading women and cursing galore, the rappers have to ensure that they include numerous references to every drug on the market. Rappers glorify the use of drugs, making it seem okay to try them. This sort of promotion of drugs to people, potentially children, is unacceptable, seeing that it is illegal.

All of these negative things amount to a completely ridiculous genre. Rap music needs to rediscover its identity and return to its roots. All of this derogatory, offensive lingo that it being utilized today is unacceptable and not appropriate for any audience or the radio. It is too vulgar and leaves bad ideas with its listeners that can not result to anything good.
