Students begin saving for Costa Rica school trip

A handful of De Soto High School students are traveling to Costa Rica June of next year with Education First tours. The trip is recreational and is meant to give students new and exciting experiences.

“We are going to go sight see and see nature, and it’s all just for fun,” science teacher Scott Sharp said.

Although the trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity for students, they are required to cover the costs of the trip, which is roughly $2,700. Students such as junior Alyssa Perry have been working part-time jobs to cover the costs of the trip.

“I told my parents I would cover the costs completely, so I work at Sprouts. I’m just trying to get hours through that and babysitting,” Perry said.

Sharp encourages students to go on the trip with Education First tours for the interesting experience despite the price tag. The group will start out in San Jose and go out northeast and northwest, exploring Costa Rica for 10 days.

“It’s worth it for sure because when you look at the costs of travel and the cost of going to do all the activities it ends up being a really good deal,” Sharp said.

Making monthly payments is also an option to cover the costs of the trip. Perry has already saved up half of the money for the trip to Costa Rica and plans on continuing to work through the summer to earn enough money.

“I think it’s going to be a really fun way to end my senior year, and I really want to travel so I think this will be a great way to see other parts of the world,” Perry said.
