Seniors excited for shortened schedules

As the first semester at De Soto High School starts coming to an end, seniors’ excitement starts growing in anticipation of having shortened schedules next semester.

Shortened schedule means seniors can drop any classes that are not necessary for graduation, are not AP classes or auditioned classes like Voce.

“I am really excited for part-time scheduling. It has been something I have been looking forward to since I can remember,” senior Whitney Wegner said. “My sister had it last year so I was always jealous she got to sleep in and not have to go to Seminar and stuff like that.”

To have shortened schedule, seniors cannot have gaps in their schedules, meaning classes have to be back-to-back. Some schedules have to be rearranged to prevent gaps in students schedules.

“I think it [shortened schedule] is a good idea but they [the school] should let students have holes in it [their schedules],” senior Makayla Mathies said.

To have shortened schedule, seniors must have all books returned as well as signatures from  the office staff.

With shortened schedule, seniors have more free time to do various activities, such as looking for scholarships and doing other college-related things, working or just spending time with friends, family and pets.

“I want to pick up some more hours at work. I am going to save the money I make for college,” Wegner said.

Mathies also plans on working while not at school to save up for college.

Shortened schedule applications are due to the main office by Friday, Dec.1.
