Every fall, everyone is always trying to get in the spirit of the season. This fall, Art II students were given a creative project that would definitely get them in the fall mood: painting on pumpkins.

Students brought in their own pumpkins and were instructed to research and choose any famous painting of their liking to design on the pumpkins.

“It really could have been anything, like modern art or impressionist art. A lot of them chose impressionist art because it was really fun to try to mimic the brush strokes,” said Art II teacher Heathyr Shaw.

Inspired by a previous art teacher she had, Shaw decided to bring this to the classroom herself.

“I brought it up to the students not knowing if they would like it. I just brought it up to engage their interest, and as soon as I said painting on pumpkins, they were excited,” Shaw said.

Aside from just being in her classroom, some of the pumpkins are also displayed in the media center.

“Displaying the art and students’ stuff is a really neat thing to do since we have these windows and everybody walks by,” said Library Media Specialist Jennifer Sosna. “It’s a great place to display stuff, and they’re super cute. We actually had a whole bunch of people come through and look at them.”

For those who haven’t seen the works of art yet, they can be found in the Media Center windows.
