Seniors ‘zombify’ for Halloween

Seniors+zombify+for+Halloween

Halloween fell on a Wednesday this year so DHS student officers brought up the idea of having students and staff their costumes.

Seniors dressed up as zombies, or wore the color black, juniors dressed as celebrities or wore orange, sophomores dressed as superheroes or wore the color purple, and freshmen dressed up in a western theme or wore the color green.

Many students got in the Halloween spirit by getting involved and dressing up.

Staff could wear whatever they wanted to and some teachers went full out. The science department dressed up as the Scooby Doo crew, and De Soto High School principal Mark Meyer was Indiana Jones.

The DHS drum line performed, fall sports were recognized for their seasons, and winter sports coaches were introduced as well.

“The drumline was great, and the dance team was awesome,” junior Kate Jordan said.

Cheerleaders had a performance and the dance team preformed a Halloween dance.

Immediately after the dancers were done, Michael Jackson’s Thiller started to play through the speakers of the gym. Seniors got up and went to the center of the floor and started doing a flash mob. Although most of the school knew about it, it was still a surprise for many and a fun activity for the seniors.

After the seniors finished, Meyer got back up in front of the students and talked about being safe on Halloween, and to watch out for little trick or treaters crossing the street.

“It was great, it got the crowd involved in the Halloween spirit,” sophomore Graycee Reeves said.

As the final bell rang, if they dressed up for the day’s festivities they could get some candy.
