With second semester in full swing and most students adjusting to the school-week schedule once again, there is time to reflect on the fun that took place over the break.

Junior Faith Smith used her winter break time to look into an east coast college dream and have some relaxing time down south.  Smith and her mom spent a week in Sunbury, Georgia, and two days in Clemson, South Carolina, home of Clemson University.

In Sunbury, they took a boat ride to different islands, but they “didn’t do too many fancy things.”

In South Carolina, Smith visited downtown Clemson and the university campus, which she loved.

“It was so pretty, and the campus was huge,” Smith said.

Smith has wanted to attend Clemson University for around two years, and this trip deepened her love for the school.

To top off the trip, the Clemson football team won the national championship the night Smith was there, an event few are lucky enough to witness.

Despite the fact that it snowed in Clemson while she was there, Smith would “go there [again] in a heartbeat.”

Sophomore Daniel Apple spent his time away from school with a 10-day trip to the Hawaiian island Oahu.

While Kansas was getting snow and freezing weather, Apple spent his time on the beach, going on an island tour and hiking.

“The weather was perfect; it was 75 to 80 [degrees] every day,” Apple said.

Even the best vacations can have mishaps, however. Apple’s occurred on Christmas Eve.

“We were hiking, and it was really muddy and [my mom] slipped and she broke her arm,” Apple said.  “We had to go to Urgent Care.”

Despite this accident in paradise, Apple says that he would definitely want to return to Oahu in the future.

“There’s lots of things to do, lots of places to see, and it’s an all-around fun place to go.”

Although the exciting adventures of winter break are over, many students will find comfort in knowing that the next big break starts on March 13.
