Julia Coverdale is chosen for Wildcat of the Week due to her outstanding academic performance despite her busy schedule.

From CatPride to musicals and plays, sophomore Julia Coverdale does it all and has no intention of slowing down.

At De Soto High School, Coverdale participates in all of the musicals and plays as well as Scholars Bowl, HERO club, CatPride, Choir and Teen Task Force.

Coverdale not only challenges herself in extracurricular activities, but in her school work as well. She is enrolled in all Pre-AP and AP classes that are offered at her grade level.

Despite the pressure that comes with being extremely busy, Coverdale is happy with her decision to do so many things.

“I feel stressed about the amount of work I have to do all the time,” Coverdale said. “It’s been awhile since I’ve not felt stressed, but I wouldn’t change this stress for all the happiness this work gives me.”

Not only is she actively involved in many things, but successful in what she does.

De Soto High school held tryouts for the play Arsenic and Old Lace the week of Dec. 5. About 60 people got callbacks and only 20 made the cast: Coverdale was one of them.

“I was really excited because it was my second call back of all time, and my first speaking part in a DHS production,” Coverdale said.

The play just seems to add another thing onto Coverdale’s to-do list, but she is determined to do the best that she can in all of the activities she participates in.

“Some of the things I do to help stay on top of everything is to remember the people that love and support me,” Coverdale said. “I also am not always able to attend every activity that I am involved in, so an important way that I determine what to go to is what I think is the most important and makes me the most happy.”

Through Coverdale’s determination and willingness to try new things, she has made new friends and stepped out of her comfort zone to push towards her goals.
