Sophomores hold photography gallery

Two De Soto High School sophomores had the very special chance to host their own photography gallery on Feb. 12 at the De Soto City Hall.

These sophomores, Zach Yarbrough and Sam McGuire, had this opportunity due to Yarbrough’s involvement with the De Soto Arts Council.

“A lot of the De Soto Art Council members were talking about increasing involvement at the high school level and foot traffic through out building, so I decided to volunteer to do a gallery and asked [McGuire] to join me because we’ve amassed a pretty good following, and I figured we could get some people to come through,” Yarbrough said.

Both Yarbrough and McGuire put a lot of preparation into the event.

“It took us a lot of time to go back through our photos. We’ve accumulated so many that we really had to take some time to go back and search for the best ones,” Yarbrough said. “It was just a lot of decision making and then printing and framing.”

Yarbrough was most excited for the gallery to “explain [his] photos and put them into context,” something he can’t do when he simply posts his work online.

McGuire was excited for the chance to “share [his] pictures with new people.“

According to Yarbrough, the most exciting part of the show was that it was exclusively his and McGuire’s work.

“It’s really exciting that the gallery was all us. It was our show and we got to put whatever we wanted in and everyone came for us, so it was really cool that we got to show what we do and what we’re capable of,” Yarbrough said.

Both photographers agree that the show went well, adding that up to around 100 people came.

“It went really well. A lot of people I didn’t know came, so it was good to get my name out there more,” McGuire said.

Both photographers considered the event very successsful, with Yarbrough adding that they both made some sales.
