The Chamber of Edgar Allen Poe is entertaining

Fun, thrilling and scary. The Chambers of Edgar Allen Poe fulfilled two out of these three criteria making anyone’s adventure a magical one.

Fun. When people walk into The Chambers of Poe, they are transported to another world. The decorations cover any remnant of an old-industrial building making people forget they are still in Kansas. The decor is fun to look at and truly brings out the Halloween spirit.

Also, if one knows some of Poe’s short stories, then that person would have a particularly fun time recognizing the references as one goes from room to room.

Though the best part is not the references or the decorations, it is the clever way the rooms are set up. From running through a spiral tunnel, to going through a room that slowly gets smaller, Poe keeps people on their toes and makes every room unique and exciting.

Thrilling. The moment someone enters the house they are forced to walk up rickety steps, which helps sets the atmosphere. Then one is caught off guard as an actor recites lines from The Raven. This act of getting caught off guard continues throughout the house as people pop out from the corners and shadows.

Perhaps the most thrilling part is when one gets lost in a maze of mirrors. The actors use this to their advantage as they catch people off guard and trap them when the people go into a dead end. There is almost never a dull moment. The actors are able to effectively spook their targets. Even when the end comes one is not bored because of the different tactics Poe uses to spook customers.

Scary. If one is looking for a feeling of pure fear, then one needs to keep looking because that person won’t find it here. While this haunted house is filled with the Halloween spirit, one will never truly feel scared. However, Poe still is recommended because it is a fun, exciting experience.

The Chambers of Edgar Allen Poe costs $20 at the door and $25 online. While it is definitely worth the $25 cost, with these average tickets one will have to wait in line for an hour. There is the option of VIP tickets, that sends one to the front, but that costs $30 at the door and $35 online. $25 is reasonable but $35 is not worth it.

After one gets over waiting for an hour, the house is delightful, fun and thrilling and is highly recommended to all De Soto High School Students.
