Expansion, new high school or changing the boundries?

Expansion, new high school or changing the boundries?

When you think back a couple of years, kids went to neighborhood schools, now it’s just where ever you are put.

I live in Shawnee, and I think it is ridiculous that I have to travel over 10 miles to go to school.

Mill Valley High School is about five minutes from my house, while DHS is over 20 minutes.

Because I am only 14, I don’t drive yet, but when I do start driving to school, it will be expensive because of high gas prices. If you live over 2.5 miles from school, bussing is free, but who wants to ride the bus all four years of high school?

Honestly, who wants to leave their house before 7 a.m. every morning just so you can get to school on time?

In the plans, they had another high school being built, but that was scratched so they could add on to the other schools.

I think that the school board either should change the boundaries again or build the new high school. That would pull more students from crowded schools, and putting them into a new one.

The district is getting larger and that means the need for more schools, not just elementary schools. It seems we have enough of those because eventually all these students will reach high school, and it will be crowded any ways. Within three to five years, both high schools will be full and the board will have to sit down and think again about expanding even more, or building a new high school.

The district already has the land for a new high school, it is in the area of Mill Creek Middle School. By building this school, it would make Mill Valley and De Soto less crowded.

The boundaries should changes because it would be more convenient for families like mine, who live so far away from the school.
