Wearing skimpy clothing won’t make you talented

Wearing skimpy clothing wont make you talented

Being a dancer, I am forced to attend several dance competitions a year and watch numerous routines to similar songs. Don’t get me wrong, I love dance and I enjoy watching others perform, even if it is to the same songs, but what I cannot stand is some of the attire the teams are beginning to wear.

First off, just because you have a petite figure does not mean you need to wear minimal clothing. Dance attire is designed to be flexible and promote easy movement, so why wear less clothing? If you believe that dancing half-naked will improve your teams dance ability, you are sadly mistaken. Just because you prance around in the smallest amount of clothing possible does not make you any better, it just makes you appear trashy.

Secondly, if you believe that you need to wear nearly no clothing, just to gain attention, there is clearly a problem. Using your body to attract people is simply disgusting. You came to the competition to dance, not to show off your entire body in front of hundreds of people.

Lastly, if you are into dance simply for the skimpy costumes and suggestive movements, you clearly do not have any deep passion for the art itself. There is so much more to dance then just costumes. Focus your attention on the purpose and emotion behind the moves rather than worrying about what others will think of what you look like. Dance is one of the only physically demanding art forms that gives people the ability to tell a story. Utilize this ability and make your dance unique so that it portrays what you want it to.
