Marching band members light up their instruments at the fourth annual glow show on Friday, Oct. 21.

The De Soto High School marching band held its fourth annual glow show on Friday Oct. 21 directly after the homecoming football game against Bishop Miege.

Every year, the glow show signals the end of the marching band season. The band celebrates their season by “covering [themselves] and [their] instruments in glow sticks and lights,” according to drum major Zach Yarbrough.

The glow show is a celebration of the efforts put forth by the band throughout their marching season.

“The students have a lot of fun preparing costumes and it is always a fun way to end our marching season,” band director Matt Bradford said.

The glow show is an event that most of the band looks forward to all marching season.

“We continue the glow show every year because it’s just something that we love to do,” Yarbrough said. “It’s a lot of fun just getting ready and preparing, and it’s even more fun when we’re on the field.”

According to Bradford, part of the appeal of it is the show’s creative nature.

“I think the band really enjoys trying to think of new ways to light up themselves and their instruments,” Bradford said.

Yarbrough favorite part of the show, however, is unique to his position as a drum major.

“The drum majors do our salute before the show and run through the band before before the show, but the full effect of all the lights really hits when we climb up on our ladders,” Yarbrough said. “From there you can the band glowing in its entirety, and it’s quite the spectacle.”

It’s safe to say that, with the show being as enjoyable as it is for both the band and the audience, that we can expect to see the band light themselves up again next year for their fifth annual glow show.
