Band performs second annual Glow Show

To close the 2014 season, the De Soto High School Marching Wildcats band performed their second annual Glow Show. Last year, for it’s last performance on Halloween, the band decided to perform it’s 2013 James Bond show in costumes for halftime.

Members dressed in a variety of costumes. Band members performed the final run of the show after the game while wearing glow sticks all over their costumes and instruments. The band decided to continue this tradition in the 2014 season with their show ‘Stadium Rock.’

“It was such a hit, and everyone loved it. I always hear a lot of people talking about how awesome it was,” sophomore band member Kayla Deghand said.

For some members of the band, the best part of the Glow Show was attempting to march in the dark.

“I know [marching in the dark] might sound dangerous, but it’s actually fun,” senior Gabby Stephens said. “A lot of people start to fall and slip everywhere … it’s a bit scary, but it’s a lot of fun.”

Although some believe marching in the dark is the best part, others believe it may prove to be more difficult than expected.

“There are some sets where we get kind of close together. That was kind of difficult,” sophomore Taylor Ramseyer said.

Besides some potential minor difficulties, Ramseyer believed the show was a big hit.

“We have a pretty exciting show, and I think the show will look really cool,” Ramseyer said. “You can’t see the people marching. You can only see the glow sticks.”

With positive reactions from the student body and football crowd, band students believe “it should become a tradition every year,” Deghand said.

With the 2014 season being the second year for the Glow Show, students hope it will become a yearly occurrence at the last football game each season.

“We got a good reaction from it,” Stephens said. “A lot of people like to do it. It’s fun as like a last marching thing.”

Several band members took it up a notch, buying more than enough glow sticks and other glow accessories for their instruments and hair. Some percussion members added a new element with glowing drum sticks. The band performed the Glow Show on Oct. 31. Members were very happy with the way the show and season went.
