Madrigals make music at 41 Action News

The De Soto High School choir had a wonderful opportunity on Nov. 5. They were able to travel to the 41 Action News studio to pre-record Christmas carols to be broadcast later on this holiday season.

Every year, 41 Action News and 38 the Spot air choirs singing Christmas music during Christmas and New Year’s.

Through relatives of DHS choir members, the Madrigals were selected to sing for this broadcast.

The first and fourth block choral students took a bus to Kansas City, Mo., to the 41 Action News studio to record.

“We were all a little jittery,” junior Montana Frehe said. She explained the warm ups they did in the lobby. People were applauding us, even though we were just in the lobby.”

Shortly after, the crew members informed the choir it was their turn. They walked through the hallways to a recording studio.

After arranging themselves on the risers, they sang Here We Come a Caroling, A-Caroling We Go, Deck the Halls and Carol of the Bells.

“It was really good,” Frehe said. “We sounded awesome.”

A fun surprise came after the recording when the students were taken to the news studio and were able to sit in the broadcasters chairs and take pictures. They also met the Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak.

Copeland was very proud of the performance. She explained that the choir did very well for having limited preparation and warm up.

The performance will air on 41 Action News on Christmas Day from 10 a.m.-noon and Dec. 30 from noon-2 p.m. Also on 38 the Spot on Christmas Day from 7-9 p.m. as well as the Dec. 29 from 4-6 p.m.
