Thespian troupe attends 2012 conference

On Jan. 5-7, 10 students got the chance to travel to Wichita to be a part of the Apocoplypse Wow Thespian Conference at the Century II Convention Center.

Thespians is the honors organization for theater. It is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors.

“In order to get into Thespians, you have to be involved in shows at school or outside of school, and participate in Forensics,” drama teacher Erin Purifoy said.

These 10 students got to watch different high schools perform in three different shows. They also got to take classes from people around the country.

One person they got to take a dance class from was from Mama Ye-Ye. She is a choreographer from New York who taught African Dances.

Others from De Soto, performed in the talent show. Senior Owen Moore took many dance lessons because he is used to the talking roles.

“I feel like I was surrounded by people just like me,” Moore said.

Seniors also got the chance to talk to colleges about participating in theater in college. All seniors talked to the local colleges that came. This can also help with networking if they want to go to a school that wasn’t present.
