The De Soto High School musical Little Shop of Horrors was put on the weekend of May 11-13 by the De Soto High School theater program after six weeks of preparation.

Everyone involved was pleased with how smoothly the show ran and proud of how they all performed.

“I think [the show] went very well,” sophomore Trace Harre said. “Thursday was probably one of our best opening nights ever, and we followed up strong with the next two nights as well.”

Even though putting on the production required a lot of work, members said that, most of the time, it was a lot of fun.

“I really liked being able to hang out with my friends again,” junior Keirstyn Mascareno said. “That’s what I was really excited about going into this show.”

The cast said that by doing the musical they acquired a lot of new skills, even if it wasn’t their first musical.

“I’ve learned how to handle and succeed in playing multiple parts, since I had four different parts in the musical,” Harre said.

The cast members owe a lot to their directors, choir teacher Mindy Fry and drama teacher Jason Hagg, for everything that they did to make the musical a success.

“I honestly think that this is the best show that we’ve done at De Soto in the past three years, and I believe that’s because [Fry and Hagg] pushed us all the time to be the best that we can be, even if it was stressful sometimes,” Mascareno said.

Despite the fact that the show took up almost all of their free time, the cast still had a lot of fun doing it and are going to miss working with each other.

“I’m usually constantly busy, so now that the show is over I’m excited that things are going to wind down. But, I’m just going to miss practicing after school everyday and being with my friends,” Mascareno said. “Overall, I’m just really going to miss just being in a show.”

The Little Shop of Horrors cast as well as other students involved in the theater program are happy with how the show turned out and cannot wait until the musical next fall.
