The De Soto High School honor choir, De Soto Voce, received the top rating at the State solo and ensemble festival on April 29.

In order to qualify for State, De Soto Voce had to receive the best possible rating on their performance at regionals.

The judges rate each choir group based off of  looks, sound and harmonies. If one person in the choir is off they could lose the chance at qualifying for State.

The Voce choir had everyone on the same page while performing because they got a 1 rating at Regionals and State, which is the best out of 5 possible ranks.

Junior Voce member Zac Matthews is very happy about the rating, but he is not shocked.

“I was really excited to receive the 1 rating because I’ve never had a rating like that at State,”  Mathews said.

In order to get to where the group is today it took a lot of preparation according to the Voce and choir teacher Mindy Fry.

“We have been working on our songs since mid January and I feel like in the last few weeks they had really locked in and taken it to that next level,” Fry said.

Although the Voce group is done competing for this year there is still one more performance on Wednesday, May 3.  This performance is dedicated to all the hardworking seniors in the group and will act as their send off the college.
